Remainder of Ames High Softball Season Canceled
Earlier today, we were informed of a positive test for COVID-19 within our Ames High softball program. Based on guidance from Story County Public Health, all Ames High softball activities will be stopped for the remainder of the season including games that were scheduled for today.
Story County Public Health is advising all junior varsity/varsity players and coaches to self-quarantine for 14 days regardless of showing symptoms.
We want to reiterate that the health and safety of our coaches and players moving forward is critical in making this tough decision to cancel the rest of our softball season. As with all teams across the district, we will continue to work within the parameters set forth by the CDC, IDPH, IHSAA, IGHSAU, and local health officials to facilitate safe practices within our sports programming. Our coaches and staff have worked diligently to minimize COVID-19 exposure in several ways, including sanitizing equipment, using social distancing measures whenever possible, and the use of hand sanitizers for the athletes. Despite these efforts to minimize any exposure, we know that COVID-19 exists within our community. We encourage families and athletes in all sports to have conversations about and take steps to follow preventative measures that support staying safe, healthy, and reducing the spread of the virus.
