Junior Yuer Zhu named a 2020 All-State Visual Arts Awardee

04 All State Art

Ames High junior Yuer Zhu was named a 2020 All-State Visual Arts Awardee by the Art Educators of Iowa and the All-State Visual Art Awards Committee. Zhu’s outstanding portfolio represents the top 20% of applicants across the state of Iowa and she was one of twelve class 4A students to receive this recognition. In a press release, the All-State Committee said,  “We appreciate the time and effort it takes to compile a portfolio and complete the submission process. Though we provide the opportunity to recognize students for outstanding work, it is the time, nurture, and support that individual teachers give students with potential that is most significant.”

Ames High art teacher Lindsay Wede said, “Yuer is an absolutely awesome artist! She is very motivated and incredibly driven to create outstanding work. She has a strong work ethic and is very enjoyable to work with. She asks excellent questions and continues to push herself to improve her skills and craft. She has a wonderful portfolio as a junior in high school and it will be very exciting to see how she builds on her portfolio for her Senior year and beyond.”

This All-State recognition adds to Zhu’s impressive 2020 resume. Earlier this year, she was selected as the Sargent Art Best of Show Award Winner for the 2020 Youth Art Month Show for her artwork titled “Floating.” That piece was on display at the State Historical Building through the month of March.
